Ruth and her sister grew up riding horses in the fox-hunting area of Little Mountain. Ruth's sister became a prominant thoughbred race horse trainer, introducing Ruth to all the great racehorses, the Kentucky farms, racing, sales, breeding farms and Kentucky Beef Burgoo.
